Want to live to 100 or beyond? Is it really possible? Yes, according to many experts. So how do the current 70,000 centenarians in America do it? 1. Centenarians eat healthy Proteins (fish, meat, poultry, dairy products, eggs and beans) Proteins provide the 8 essential amino acids to do repairs and maintenance for skin, internal organs and muscles. Carbohydrates (whole grains, fruits, vegetables) These provide your body with the fuel it needs. You should not rely on candy, cakes, sodas and sugary fruit drinks for energy. Vitamins (essential vitamins C,B,A,D,E, and K) Minerals (calcium, potassium, iron and trace amounts of zinc, selenium, and copper) Water Water accounts for a large percentage of body weight. It cleanses tissues and helps the body eliminate waste substances. Avoid excess alcohol Heavy drinking takes a toll on the body and not only affects the mind but can do liver damage as well 2. Centenarians have strong social networks and generally enjoy living People do not thrive in a vacuum. Everyone needs to be appreciated, and the best way is to get out and show an interest in others first. Most centenarians enjoy company and have been active in their families, churches, and communities. They are also curious by nature and are constantly learning something new. It may be surprising how many centenarians actually play an instrument, for example. Others read, keep up with the world around them, and more of them are surfing the Net with their great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. 3. Centenarians exercise, or have been very physically active Experts are now realizing how important even the simplest exercise can be. Bone and muscle deterioration can be stopped and possibly past damages may be reversed by proper exercise. Since walking is the easiest exercise for most people, doctors highly recommend it. Take a stroll around your block during your lunch hour or walk in a park or nature reserve on the weekends. Getting away from your job and problems for a few minutes can reap big dividends not only in the way you feel, but also in your mental outlook. Other areas where super centenarians excel are in the reduction of stress in their lives and getting plenty of sleep. Will it be possible for you to reach 100 if you follow these simple suggestions? America is gearing up for an estimated 800,000 centenarians by the year 2050. That’s a conservative estimate. The numbers could be higher with new medicines and breakthroughs. With good basic habits such as eating right, exercising, and staying socially active you will have a lot going in your favor toward becoming a future centenarian.
